On the 3rd July we wrote to the chief planner John McNairney regarding the housing land supply issues following the Gladman court case on Carsemeadow, Quarriers village, which has deeply concerned ourselves and communities who will be affected by the judgement.
We said we were concerned that the ability of the development industry to persistently appeal local authority decisions on the grounds of housing land supply risks undermining that plan led approach. The way these policies are currently framed and interpreted makes it very hard for local authorities to plan positively for sustainable development and provides very little certainty for communities.
We asked him to clarify methodologies on calculating housing land supply.
He did not respond. However, 10 days later the SG launched a Housing technical consultation which does in fact address these issues.
